Tonnes of gold has fallen from the sky in Russia.

The gold fell after a cargo plane malfunctioned in mid-air.

The aircraft was carrying more than $500 million worth of platinum, gold and diamonds when the hatch flew open – sending the precious metals plummeting back to Earth.

Police have sealed off the runway, located in the eastern Yakutsk region.

The cargo belonged to the Chukotka Mining and Geological Company, and was not a botched attempt at a heist.

A map showing where to find the 172 bars of gold was circulating online, but officials said the gold was all accounted for.

  1. Wow! So the person driving the plane was either in a rich business or was flying with a rich person
