Kevin Wood, Kirsty Henderson and her sister, Megan, have become the first confirmed finders of gold buried under the sand of Outer Harbour Beach in the UK.

30 bars of 24-carat gold was buried by German artist, Michael Sailstofer (in picture), as part of the Folkestone Art Festival.

The gold is valued at $19,846 and has drawn many people to the beach in the hope of finding their share of the treasure.

The lucky 3 friends found a piece valued at $992.58 after an hour of digging.

They quietly slipped the gold into their pocket so as not to alert other diggers to their good fortune and headed off the beach to celebrate.

The festival runs from August 30th to November 2nd.
