Before the birds left for their annual flight north, an official send-off was organised for the Godwits leaving New Zealand.
Around 70,000 Godwits, also known as Kuaka, arrive in New Zealand in September each year.
The birds make the trip to New Zealand from their northern breeding grounds in Alaska.
The Godwits remain in New Zealand until March each year before making the 15,000 kilometre journey back to Alaska.
