A glass of fresh French air has been sold in china for $860.

Beijing artist Liang Kegang returned from a business trip in southern France with the glass of fresh air and put it on the internet in an online auction.

The fresh air proved so popular the price continued to rise and rise until it was finally sold.

Liang sold the air to highlight china’s pollution problems. In China cities often are immersed days on end in harmful pollutants at levels many times what is considered safe by the World Health Organization.

Other artists have done similar things to highlight China’s poor air quality.

In February, 20 artists wearing dust masks lay on the ground and played dead in front of an altar at the Temple of Heaven park in a performance art protest in Beijing.
