Derek Chauvin, a former police, has been found guilty of killing a black man named George Floyd.

Mr Chauvin was found guilty on all three charges he was accused of: second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

George Floyd died while in police custody in May 2020 in the city of Minneapolis. He was held down on the ground by Chauvin, who used extreme force on his neck with his knee.

Chauvin will remain in custody until he is sentenced and could spend decades in jail.

Floyd’s death sparked protests against racism and excessive use of police force all over the world, including the New Zealand.

Four police officers lost their jobs following the incident including Derek Chauvin. The three other officers involved also faced criminal charges.
