Chantelle from Perth, Australia, had never been to the races before and this year decided to celebrate the Melbourne Cup. What started out as a fun and lucky day turned sour after a selfie on Facebook backfired!

After placing a $20 bet on Prince of Penzance and winning $900 when the horse took first place, Chantelle posted a celebratory selfie on Facebook with her winning ticket.

Unfortunately, one of Chantelle’s Facebook friends wasn’t actually so friendly. After seeing her photo, one of her friends printed the photo and scanned the ticket’s barcode at an automated ticket machine, stealing all of Chantelle’s winnings.

Only fifteen minutes after posting the photo, Chantelle went to collect her money and was told that it had already been claimed.

Police have tracked down where the money was claimed and believe they will be able to find the person who stole Chantelle’s winnings.
