A State of Emergency has been declared in Napier as heavy rain has caused flooding in the region.
Huge downpours have caused floods to sweep through many Napier streets, prompting evacuations, rescues and causing widespread damage.
Dozens of people have been evacuated from Napier, and firefighters have responded to more than 80 properties.
People were being urged to stay inside, as long as it was safe to do so, and not to drive or to come into contact with the floodwaters, which could be contaminated.
Napier Mayor, Kirsten Wise, declared a local state of emergency yesterday.
MetService warned the rain could continue until early Wednesday
The flooding has been descibed by experts as a one in 100 year event.

YIKES!! That’s terrible for Napier, but great for the dams! Maybe some of the water in Napier will somehow travel to places with less water…?
By the way, water is precious, so save it always!!!!!!!
