The future of James Bond books is about to look different.

For the first time a female author has been selected to write the next three books in the 007 series.

Author Kim Sherwood will become the first female author of the secret agent which was created by Ian Fleming.

The first new installment will be released in September 2022. It will feature a new generation of 00 agents.

Sherwood said that she hoped to modernise and expand the Bond character with a “female perspective”.

Sherwood is already an award winning author. Her 2018 novel Testament received huge acclaim.  She said she would look at Fleming’s original books for character inspiration.

Currently there are 40 officially licensed James Bond books authored by six writers, including Sebastian Faulks, Kingsley Amis and Anthony Horowitz, since 1953.
