Santa Claus has returned to central Christchurch for the first time since the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.
Light rain failed to put off thousands of people for the annual Christchurch Santa Parade held on Sunday.
The parade had been held in Riccarton, following the earthquake on February 22 2011, which damaged the traditional Colombo St route.
This year the parade featured more than 130 groups and floats, including a Star Wars pod racer and a haunted house.
Pop culture icons like Miss Piggy and Wonder Woman also made appearances, as did children’s entertainer Suzy Cato.
Parade manager Pam Morris said the Christchurch Children’s Christmas Parade Trust was over the moon with how the event went. There was a good crowd despite the weather, and bar some teething issues in the assembly area, there were no incidents or accidents, she said.

  1. Cool, it would be weird for an annual event to just stop and then start up again in a few years time
