A prototype Apple 1 has been sold for $1.15million NZ dollars.

Apple co-founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built just 200 of the computers in 1976.

The model auctioned this week contains tell-tale signs that it is an early sample.

One computer historian says it is “one of the first, if not the first ever” Apple computer.

The machine ran on the Apple 1 BASIC operating system

The winning bidders, Glenn and Shannon Dellimore, said they want to take the computer into schools and universities to help inspire young people.

  1. We have just read this article as part of our reading group. Casey says, ‘It’s interesting that in 1976, they made only 200 of these computers.’ Liam says, ‘It’s interesting to compare what computers used to look like. Alex says, ‘Your words are very descriptive for example where it tells us about the auction.’ Virage says, ‘We learned something new.’ And Amy says, ‘I like how the people that bought it are going to take it to schools to show the kids.’

  2. wow! I want an apple computer! although is it just the picture? because I do not want a few plugs and cords! I also want an ipad 2 or pro or even a mini! I just want a device! luckily ill be getting one when im eleven 🙂
