A Chinese ferry, the Easter Star, capsized on the Yangtze river on Monday after it was hit by a storm. The ferry had 456 people on board and 396 of these have been confirmed dead.
On Friday, hooks were welded onto the ship and net stretched around the entire ferry in order to lift it after officials said the chances of finding anyone alive were minimal.
Only 14 of the 456 passengers and crew are known to have survived. Over 100 people are still missing. The 14 survivors all jumped from the ship as it started to sink and were rescued by divers.
The tragedy is quickly becoming China’s worst shipping disaster in more than 60 years.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has said a thorough investigation into the cause of the disaster will take place, after angry relatives protested at the scene.
