A playground slide on Wellington’s waterfront is to be removed this week due to safety reasons.
The slide is located at Frank Kitts Park and will be removed following a number of injuries.
Wellington City Council said it had received reports of young children seriously injuring themselves on it. In March, it was reported that a child had broken a leg while using the slide, with another similar incident reported in July.
The slide was specially created for the park and installed in the late 1980s.
A large upgrade of the playground is due to begin next year and will include a new slide.
The Wellington City Council said that the new playground would include a new slide just as big and just as much fun. However, the new design will have a twist in the middle designed to reduce speed.
