Facebook has changed its company name to Meta as part of a major rebrand.

The rebranding comes at a time when the company is under a lot of pressure and when they also want to expand into other areas like virtual reality (VR).

Don’t worry though, the names of its social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp won’t change. It will just be the parent company that owns them.

The word meta comes from the Greek language meaning beyond. The company also unveiled its new logo, a blue infinity shape.

Mark Zuckerberg, the boss of Meta, announced the new name and explained his plans to create a metaverse. This is a place where people play and connect in 3D.

Meta is hiring 10,000 to develop this metaverse where you use the internet through virtual reality.

What is a metaverse?

Metaverse is a way of using the internet through virtual reality. Instead of being on a computer, you would use a VR headset to go on websites.

This virtual world wouldn’t be for just gaming but you’d also be able to meet friends, work, and go to concerts all through the metaverse.
