Drought has been officially declared in parts of Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and the Hawkes Bay.
Member of Parliament Nathan Guy called the droughts medium-scale at this stage and praised the resilience of farmers who were finding the weather particularly hard.
Many areas in the north island are experiencing the driest summers in recorded history.
Sadly, their is no rain in sight for many areas with the extended forecast still showing long dry periods for most areas affected.
Government funding will be given to farmers to help them through this tough time.
