Naomi Osaka and Novak Djokovic have been crowned 2019 champions at the Aussie Open.

Yesterday Naomi Osaka overcame double Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova to claim the Australian Open title with a 7-6 5-7 6-4 win.

It was a second successive Grand Slam crown for the Japanese, after her U.S. Open triumph in September. She now becomes the first Asian player to claim the world number one ranking.

Meanwhile, in the men’s competition, Novak Djokovic claimed a record seventh Australian Open crown.

Djokovic was too strong for Rafa Nadal beating him 6-3 6-2 6-3. The result was his 15th Grand Slam title and third in succession.

Only Federer’s 20 and Nadal’s 17 outstrip Djokovic’s tally of Grand Slam trophies.
