Dave Dobbyn, one of New Zealand’s best musicians, has written a song dedicated to the victims of the Pike River Mine disaster.

The New Zealand songwriting called the song ‘This Love’ and played it in a concert over the weekend for the first time.

The concert was held at the Michael Fowler Centre and was called  ‘Dreams Lie Deeper’.

The concert was a tribute to mining communities worldwide but with a focus on the 29 men who died following a series of explosions at Pike River Mine in 2010.

‘This Love’ was themed on love, hope and justice for the men whose bodies are still to be recovered from the depths of the underground mine.

The concert received a standing ovation.
