Last month, former All Black Dan Carter tackled a 24-hour Kickathon at Eden Park. This week it was confirmed that he raised $506,959 for Unicef Aotearoa New Zealand.

His aim was to match the number of test points he scored for New Zealand, and Carter successfully reached his target of 1598 goal kicks in a 24-hour period.

The money raised will be used to help provide water, sanitation, and hygiene to children in Kiribati, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.

Carter said he was “blown away” by the support the Kickathon had received.

“It’s fair to say I loved pushing my mind and body to its limits throughout the 24 hours, but I always knew this event was much bigger than me.

“The impact that the donations will have on so many children’s lives was the one thing that kept pushing me through the pain barrier.”
