Hospitals in the Waikato have been hit by a serious cyber attack.

The attack has caused the postponement of some services, including specialist appointments and non-urgent surgery.

The cyberattack appears to be a type of ransomware called “Conti”. It appears to be same type of attack that targeted Ireland’s Department of Health last week.

The attackers have been in touch with the Waikato DHB, however the they had not asked for a specific amount of money.

Without the computer system it is difficult to read X-rays and lab tests.
