India’s healthcare system is in trouble as the number of Covid-19 cases continues to rise.

India has set record after record for the most cases in a day. Yesterday 349,691 cases were reported in just 24 hours.

The huge increase has put pressure on hospitals and drained their oxygen supplies.

The capital, Delhi, is one of the worst-hit areas, with many hospitals full and many refusing to take new patients.

Oxygen-equipped ambulances are in short supply and it’s becoming difficult for families to transport patients to hospitals even if they find a bed.

New Zealand has sent $1million in aide to the area and other countries around the world have followed.

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also urged people to get vaccinated and a number of areas are extended already harsh lockdowns.

India has so far confirmed more than 16 million cases – three million have been added just in the last two weeks.
