The Ministry of Health has confirmed that 11 of the 21 crew on board a container ship in Tauranga have Covid-19.

The ship is called the Rio De La Plata and it is currently sitting off the coast of Tauranga.

All of the crew on board are reported to be well, with none reporting any symptoms.  No crew members came ashore while the ship was being unloaded in Tauranga.

The MOH have also said that 94 port workers in Tauranga have also been tested. They will stand down from work and isolate until a negative result returned.

Cargo loading and unloading at Tauranga Container Terminal is set to operate at reduced levels whilst we work through this situation.
