Do you like spicy food? Think you can handle the hottest and spiciest? So did the 1000 people who gathered in Denmark to eat the world’s hottest pepper….they were wrong!

I bet you’ve all heard of the jalapeno pepper, a rather spicy treat that many have tried. But what about the ghost pepper?

On the Scoville scale of hotness, the fiery jalapeno pepper is between 3,500 and 4,000 SHUs.

The ghost pepper ranges between 800,000 to over 1 million SHUs! It would mean sticking 230 jalapeno peppers in your mouth to have the same effect as a single small ghost pepper.

The pepper is so hot that India’s Defence Research and Development Organization has been researching a way to make the pepper into a weapon similar to tear gas.

1000 brave people showed up in Denmark to eat ghost peppers, leaving many with watering eyes and even causing some to throw up!

There was lots of milk handed out for those who could no longer take the heat as milk is far more effective at cooling down your mouth after spicy food than water.

Each participant walked away with a certificate congratulating their bravery and a memory of a rather hot event!
