Do you think you could play a 45-hour game of football?

Last weekend, in Wellington, twenty-eight people set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous football match by playing for 45 hours straight. The game started at 1 pm on Friday and finished at 10 am on Sunday.

The game raised money for the More Than A Game charity, sending proceeds to Gumboot Friday.

More Than A Game co-founder Graham Matheson said that players were on the indoor field for four hours at a time, with a four-hour break.

The score tally was also recorded with more than 2000 goals netted over the two days.

“I think it was something like 1300 to 1100 [for a scoreline], somewhere like that,” Matheson said.

More than $52,000 has been raised following donations from 889 donors.
