Soft drink giant Coca-Cola has made an embarrassing mix up in an advertisement for its Coca-Cola bottles in Hamilton.

The advertisement reads “Kia Ora, Mate”, an attempt to combine the Māori language with English.

However, when read in full Māori, translates to “Hello, death”.

Mate is the Māori word for death.
