Today is World Christmas Jumper Day!

Around the world millions of people will put on a Christmas jumper to help raise money for children in need.

People traditionally start to wear Christmas jumpers in December, in the lead up to Christmas day. Although in New Zealand, because we have Christmas during summer, it isn’t as popular as other countries.

The day was first set up by Save the Children – a charity that helps children.

The first official Christmas jumper day was held in 2012. People wear a Christmas jumper to celebrate the festive season, and also donate money to the charity.

Save the Children helps children who might have access to education, healthcare or a safe place to stay.
