Christchurch Remembers 2011

Christchurch has formally commemorated the third anniversary of the devastating 2011 earthquake.
The 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the city at 12.51pm on 22 February the 2011 killing 185 people.

A visual  memorial of  ‘185 Empty Chairs’ was set up in Madras Street while a Civic Memorial Service  was held in the Christchurch Botanical Gardens.

Mayor Lianne Dalziel addressed the memorial followed by Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee.
Wreaths were laid by members of key emergency and support services, and the names of the 185 victims were read out. this was followed by two minutes silence starting at 12:51pm.
