All Whites striker Chris Wood has joined Newcastle Football Club.

The kiwi joined from fellow English Premier League club Burnley. His first game was a 1-1 draw against Watford.

Wood has signed a 2½-year contract. His transfer fee was undisclosed but was earlier reported to be between $40-50 million NZD.

Wood will wear No 20, the same shirt number he wore when he debuted for New Zealand as a 17-year-old.

He said in a statement: “This is a very exciting opportunity for me and I’m delighted to be a Newcastle United player.

“I have played at St James’ Park a few times and it’s an amazing place, so to have the chance to represent this club with those incredible supporters behind me and my team-mates is very special.

Newcastle are trying to avoid relegation, currently sitting 19th on the EPL table with three of the 20 teams to go down at the end of the season.

Burnley are one place ahead of them on goal difference.
