Chinese President Xi Jinping will arrive in New Zealand today for a three-day long visit. His visit is built up of a short visit in Wellington on Thursday and a day in Auckland on Friday, before flying off to Fiji. His visit will hope to strengthen relations with New Zealand, as John Key hopes to give Xi Jinping confidence and reassurance in the benefits of being trade partners with a Western State such as New Zealand. New Zealand was the first developed nation to sign a free trade agreement with China, from which Australia have recently followed as they have developed their own free trade agreement in the past couple of weeks.
First lady, Peng Liyan, will be joining her husband for the visit. Together they hope to build support for China and portray its favourable economic characteristic as a good business partner. An interesting fact is that Ms Peng was one of the two most popular singers during the 1980’s in China.
