China has big plans to commercialise the Tibetan side of Mount Everest. There is plans for hotels, restaurants and training facilities.

This comes after China opened a new asphalt highway across the Tibetan plateau to Base Camp North earlier this year.

Although the Tibetan, north side, isn’t as popular as the Nepal route, China is hoping to attract more climbers to the region and bring economic growth to Tibet through tourism.

Another element to the development plans is the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

The hope for the Everest development plans is to popularise winter sports in China ahead of the Games.

  1. I don’t think that’s a good idea some people died climbing Mount Everest and some died on the way down maybe put the hotel on the bottom of Mount Everest that would be better.

  2. I think that this is a good idea. It would bring more people to the games and you would have an apsolutly amazing view.

  3. This should not at all happen. They are planning to destroy a valuable piece of land and a beautiful mountain? I think not.
