China lands spacecraft on the moon

China has become the first country in over 35 years to land a spacecraft on the Moon.

China made the announced that the spacecraft had successfully landed on a flat area called the Bay of Rainbows. There were no humans on board.

It makes China the third country to send a craft to land on and explore the Moon’s surface.

The spacecraft is called Yutu and is a six-wheeled robotic rover that will explore and carry out scientific experiments.

The long-term goal for China is to send a  man to the Moon.
