The South American country of Chile is about to get the world’s largest telescope.

The 3,000m Cerro Armazones mountain will be the new home for the telescope.

In order to house the telescope the top of the mountain will be blasted away using explosives.

The huge telescope has a 39-metre mirror, and the astronomers are calling it “the world’s biggest eye on the sky.”

They say it will help advance the study of planets around other stars, dark matter and supermassive black holes.
