READING – Short Story

Today we are going to read a short story from a New Zealand School Journal and complete our reading and writng from that.

  1. Read through the text which can be found by CLICKING HERE. However, for today’s reading, we want you to read only the first 2 pages. THEN STOP and move onto your writing task.
  2. After finishing your writing, complete the end of the story.

WRITING – Descriptive Writing

Today we are going to write a ending to the story above.

Your task is to read the first two pages and then write a new ending.

Key Steps
1. Read the first 2 pages
2. Write down a plan for the rest of the story.
3. Write your new ending.
4. Edit and check through.

Your task is to think of an issue in your community and write a letter to your MP.

  1. Research a topic
  2. Select 10-15 keywords from your research.
  3. Create informative sentences and have a clear message

Tomorrow is ANZAC Day. Our Prime Minister has asked New Zealanders to meet and remember ANZAC Day at the end of our driveways at 6am tomorrow.

Today we can read a poem about Chunuk Bair. It comes from one of our School Journals – School Journal Level 3 June 2014.

Read the poem below. Chunuk Bair is a hill in Turkey that New Zealand soldiers attempted. It is a sombre poem.

WRITING – ANZAC Poem

Today you are going to write an ANZAC Poem.

Your task is to take a topic from ANZAC and create a poem about it. Your poem can rhyme or be like the one you read above. We suggest you follow the following steps.

  1. Research a topic – CLICK HERE
  2. Select 10-15 keywords from your research.
  3. Create descriptive sentences from the words above.
  4. Write a good simile, metaphor and some personification within your sentences.
  5. Bring your sentences together.
