Canoeist Lisa Carrington has won two gold medals within 2 hours at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Firstly, Carrington won the K1 200 event. This is the third time she has won this race after winning in London in 2012 and Rio in 2016.

Her win means that she is the first New Zealander to win three Olympic Games gold medals in the same event and just the second athlete to win three gold medals in an individual canoe sprint event.

Carrington’s second medal came in the K2 500 where she joined up with Caitlin Regal to bring home gold for New Zealand.

This latest result was New Zealand’s sixth gold medal of the Games.
