Residents of a small Canadian town have been seeing pink when they turn on the tap.

Onoway council has apologised to residents of the Alberta town after a water treatment plant turned the water supply pink. The colour was caused by a chemical used during routine flushing of the lines.

During normal line flushing and filter backwashing, a valve seems to have stuck open allowing the chemical, potassium permanganate, to get into the sump reservoir.

Mayor Dale Krasnow said there was no public health risk.

  1. WOW! I saw this on insta as well but i didn’t know why this happened. This funny but sad at the same time, but more funny, sorry if I am being rude, I am not trying to be!

  2. Oh wow. Pink water? I wonder what chemical the water got mixed with to make it pink. I wonder if they can get other chemicals to make other water colours. I think food colouring can turn food (and maybe drink) into different colours….

  3. If it was a chemical that got in the water wouldn’t it poison them???????????????????????

  4. there are certain chemicals that are harmful, and this is not one of them
