While National MP Mike Sabin resigned as Northlands Member of Parliament representative in January, the contest for who will take his spot has only just begun. The Electoral Commission has confirmed that eleven candidates have been nominated and will be running for the position in a “By-Election” held on the 28th of March.
A By-Election is a special election of a new local Member of Of Parliament when a vacancy for a parliamentary seat arises. Now that nominations for candidates have closed, the Electoral Commission will begin printing and distributing ballot papers. For which there will be 84 voting places open for the public to cast their vote on Election Day.
Only those who are correctly enrolled in the Northland general electorate will be able to vote in the By-Election.
