3 year old North Dakota boy, Carson Urness, found out how true the term ‘man’s best friend’ is about dogs.

The Urness family adopted Cooper, the golden retriever crossed with a German Shepherd, as a puppy after they found him abandoned on the side of the road.

Since his adoption, Cooper has been best friends with the Urness’ son, the two of them often playing in the garden together.

However, the two keen explorers strayed a little too far one afternoon, leaving Mrs Urness worried when she couldn’t find them in the yard.

The family’s house backs onto more than 2000 acres of farmland, leaving Mrs Urness worried that the two had gotten lost in the approaching dark and the rain.

The police were called and over 200 volunteers showed up to search for 3 year old Carson.

It was 2 a.m. when a firefighter trekked over a hill about a mile away from the family’s home and spotted Carson lying on the ground, with Cooper on top of him to keep the boy warm and safe.

Carson was returned home safe to his parents thanks to Copper’s loyalty and love for the little boy.
