Haatchi the dog has proven that he really can be man’s best friend after befriending 8 year old Owen Howkins.
Born with an extremely rare genetic condition called Schwartz Jampel Syndrome, Owen’s muscles are in a constant state of tension, unable to relax and he is constantly in pain.
Owen’s condition also causes growth delays, lack of balance and impaired vision.
Owen became very shy and self conscious, and rarely left his home. That was until he met Haatchi.
Haatchi, the Antolian Shepherd, had a awful start to life. He was tied to a railway track and hit by a train.
Haatchi lost a leg and his tail in the accident and would have been put down if it wasn’t for Owen’s family.
Owen and Haatchi have become the best of friends and Owen has regained a lot of confidence, taking his dog for a walk and telling everyone Haatchi’s story.
Haatchi and Owen’s amazing bond has been captured in a short film called ‘A Boy and his Dog’ to raise awareness for Schwartz Jampel Syndrome.
The film has won several awards and has gained over 2 million views on YouTube.
