The Black Caps have smashed South Africa in the first test match, winning by an innings and 276 runs before lunch on day three.

South Africa were bowled out for 95 in their first innings with Matt Henry being the pick of the Kiwi bowlers with 7/23. Matt Henry’s figures were the equal third best in New Zealand history.

In reply, New Zealand scored 482 in their 1st innings with Henry Nicholls scoring 105. He was supported by Tom Blundell who scored 96. Henry continued his fine game making 58 not out, batting at No 11

In South Africa’s second bat, Tim Southee took five wickets as New Zealand bowled out South Africa for 111. Their paltry total was actually better than their first innings haul.

The result ended a 16-match winless streak by New Zealand in tests between the two nations.

The second test also in Christchurch starts on Friday.
