The Black Ferns have won their home world cup opener 41-17 against Australia at Eden Park.
Australia started the better of the two sides scoring the first three tries in the game and having a 17-0 lead after half an hour.
The Black Ferns scored two quick tries before the break to cut the lead to 5 meaning the score was 17-15 at the break.
After the break the Black Ferns continued their momentum coming up against a 13 women side after two Australian players were sent to the bin.
England also opened their women’s Rugby World Cup campaign with a 84-19 rout of Fiji at Eden Park.
France also beat South Africa 40-5.
Today’s crowd for the triple-header was a record for a women’s World Cup match and for a standalone women’s sporting fixture in New Zealand.
