A woman in Brooklyn, New York, received a birthday card in the mail…45 years late.
The card was supposed to be delivered to Susan Heifetz on her 19th birthday card, written from her brother.
It isn’t the only piece of mail that was late on arriving to Susan, she was also recently contacted by a man living in her childhood apartment about a letter that had arrived, dated 1969, from her now dead mother.
This letter was also for her birthday. Two days later another letter arrived, also written in 1969, from a man Susan used to date. The letter was sent whilst he was fighting as a soldier in Vietnam.
The Postal Service has delivered more than 7 trillion pieces of mail since 1969 and say that it is unlikely that all 3 pieces of Susan’s mail could have been lost in the system.
However the Postal Service cannot explain where the mail has been for the last 45 years.
The unexpected deliveries brought back many memories and a sense of closure for Susan as she prepares to leave Brooklyn and retire in Nevada where her brother lives.
