A large bird is responsible for cutting power to hundreds of Auckland homes and businesses this morning.
The bird brought down power lines at about 6.30am on Richardson Rd in Mt Roskill, in front of May Road School.
It left 281 properties without power.
Mt Roskill fire station officer Terry Bird said the fault was unusual.
“Usually you would need a car accident or something to knock them down,” he says.
A Vector spokeswoman said bird strike often happened in the early morning and evening when the light could disorientate and blind birds, causing them to hit the lines.
It is very rare for the lines to actually fall when this happened and it would take a big bird to cause the damage, she said.
It’s unclear what type of bird was responsible.
Power was expected to be restored shortly.
