Fancy being a postie at the bottom of the world?

The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust in the United Kingdom is searching for a small team of people for the November to March season.

Duties for the position include processing postcards, counting penguins and showing people around the museum on the island.

One of the key jobs is dealing with the mail. On average, visitors to the area send about 80,000 postcards around the world a year.

Prior to Covid-19 around 18,000 visitor came to the site each year. When they come everyone wants to send a postcard to family and friends, so it was never just one, you end up with six or seven.

The most amazing thing is it’s NZ$3.80 to send a postcard anywhere in the world, so it’s a bargain.

However, the job is not for everyone. There is no running water on the island, so the opportunity for a shower only comes with the visiting cruise ships. On top of this, equipment is limited. Workers only have a stove and a cooker.
