The average lifespan of a Kiwi is only 13 years.

This is the finding of a recent report into the state of New Zealand’s national bird.

The number one problem for Kiwi birds is dogs. However, it is believed that stoats kill around 95% of Kiwi chicks before they have their first birthday.

Without dogs and stouts it is believed that the average lifespan would be between 50 and 60 years.

People have been reminded that if they have dogs, to keep them on a leash.
