Some of the most destructive forest wild fires have struck Australia.

The fires have been going since last week, and firefighters predict conditions to get worse as higher temperatures and increased winds hit Sydney this week.

In the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, over 200 homes have been destroyed and another 109 damaged by Friday.

Bush fires are common in Australia but not usually at this time of year.

Fire teams are continuing to battle dozens of blazes near Sydney.

One man has died while trying to save his house from the fire.
