The Auckland Regional Council has opened the door for an 11.5% fuel tax.
The decision now goes to the public who have their chance to give their views.
However, people don’t have long to get their opinions across. The council will take a final vote on the 11.5 cents-a-litre tax at the end of the month.
The National Party has already pledged to scrap it if re-elected in 2020.
The hope is to raise around $1.5 billion to help with roads and transport.
