The Auckland Harbour Bridge was partially closed over the weekend due to a protest by cyclists.

Two northbound lanes were closed as hundreds of cycling protesters blocked them. The cyclists were part of the ‘Liberate the Lanes’ protest held at Point Erin Park below the bridge.

The protestors are calling for a three-month trial of a cycle lane on the bridge. The northbound lanes were blocked for about two hours.

Police said they were “disappointed” by those who breached the cordons, and one person who initially breached the cordon was arrested and is being spoken to.
