A New York City artist has received a lot of criticism after he tattooed his dog.
The dog was undergoing surgery at the local vet and was sedated whilst having her spleen removed when the vet allowed her owner, artist known as Mistah Metro, to tattoo her.
The tattoo appears to be a declaration of love in the form of an arrow through a heart with the names Alex and Mel inside.
Animals lovers and the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) are outraged at the tattoo.
Despite that the dog was sedated at the time the tattoo was given, the ASPCA still strongly opposes it, believing that tattoos on animals should be strictly for identification purposes.
The owner of the tattoo parlour where Mistah Metro works was quick to assure the public that the shop had nothing to do with the tattooing.
