Scientists believe that they have found a creature that can live forever.

Researchers from South Denmark University claim a special kind of freshwater polyp is ‘effectively immortal’.

Immortal means to live forever.

Hydra magnipapillata, a tiny animal with a tube-like body, tentacles, a mouth and adhesive foot is almost completely unaffected by the ageing process.

Researchers say that it could live, under the right conditions, up to 1,400 years.

The research was published in the scientific journal, Nature.
