Amazing hang drums

What an enchanting sound! The Hang Drum is a relatively new instrument invented only 13 years ago in Switzerland by Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer.

Watch the video here

The instrument is constructed from two half-shells of steel sheet which is glued together leaving a hallow inside and creating a distinct UFO shape.

The top (Ding) side of the Hang, depending on how it is played, can sound like a harp, bells, or harmonically tuned steelpans.

Head over to Kiwi Kids Vids to watch a man who self-taught himself play the Hang. One thing’s for sure it certainly sounds like this hang drum should be used in the sound track for the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie!
