A swimming cap for afro hair has been approved for use in top-level competitions.

The specialised cap – designed for thick, curly hair and styles such as dreadlocks, weaves and braids.

The cap was banned from last year’s Olympics.

FINA have announced that the Soul Cap has been approved, after testing showed no advantage for swimmers.

Manufacturers Soul Cap welcomed the decision by FINA to add the cap to its approved swimwear list from Sept. 1.
