New Zealander’s are being strongly urged to be sensible with backyard sports this summer after more than 100 people injured themselves with plastic cricket bats and Frisbees last year. It is known that alcohol plays a great role to these injures, as ACC estimates it contributes to around 11% of all claims.
The act of playing sports and recreation led to a staggering 450,000 injuries last year. According to ACC figures 23 Kiwi were injured with a plastic cricket bat and 86 people injured by a Frisbee.
With the holiday season emerging around the corner, ACC has launched a safety campaign to bring awareness to how simple activities can be of risk to individuals’ health. They emphasize that taking a few small precautions can lead to a safe, enjoyable summer period for all.
